Can I work while studying in USA?
Yes, but with certain restrictions. As an international student (F-1 visa), you can work on-campus during your first academic year for up to 20 hours per week, following specific guidelines. You can work full-time during vacation. After completing your first year, you may qualify for off-campus work opportunities such as Curricular Practical Training (CPT), Optional Practical Training (OPT) (before or after graduation), or the STEM OPT Extension for eligible programs. In special cases, students facing economic hardship may also receive approval for off-campus employment. However, all off-campus work must be related to your field of study and requires prior authorization from your university’s Designated School Official (DSO) and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Working legally ensures a smooth academic journey while gaining valuable experience for your future career!
